Foundation

Anahata was founded on the basis of bringing goodness and sustenance to those involved in its community and reaching out to those who are not. Each piece is handcrafted by local artisans of Rishikesh, India. A husband and wife team, along with highly enthusiastic and humble artists who have shown a passion to express their work creatively. We believe the best practice for ensuring fair trade and wellness is by maintaining personal relationships with our artisans and holding a strong interaction of laughter, chai and creative expression with each individual. We provide immaculate working conditions for our artisans by keeping a well-lit, spacious and luxurious studio, fair wages to provide full support for their family and flexible working hours.

Anahata also donates a portion of proceeds from every piece sold to the Anahata Foundation. The Anahata Foundation provides support for the Khushi Project of Rishikesh. Each child of the Khushi Project is given full medical, academic, vocational, spiritual and athletic support/education. Puja , founder of Anahata, spent months with the children during her time in India and noticed a drastic difference between what she thought she would do and what was actually happening. She went into the project thinking she would help bring liberation to these children and rise them out of poverty, but as she spent time with each child, she realized there was no difference between them and her. That regardless of material, each individual had the full right, capacity and desire to simply be happy. It was then she decided that donating money was only to help support the innocence and freedom they already experienced and not to change who they were on the inside because of what they are given on the outside.

“Every person deserves his basic needs to be met, but beyond the basics, happiness, freedom and life are experienced as a projection from the inside. My connection to Khushi is to provide what each child needs and deserves and further share with them my heart - not pour my pity. Who am I to pity anyone? We should all walk with dignity. I will not give charity, I will only give my support. Truth be told, I think they help me more than I could help them.”

Not only does Anahata reach to support those who help create the pieces, but also those who wear them. Each piece is cleansed and blessed in the Himalayas by a spirutal healer to bring clear and fresh energy to each stone.

From the support of local artisans to the children of the Khushi Project, Anahata hopes to continue and raise awareness that giving is not about getting credit or recognition; it is about our duty to our own humanity. Give when we can. Receive when we need. And be humbled and in gratitude throughout each process.
